Dear Spurtle
Whilst a redevelopment of the Powderhall site is very welcome, no mention appears to have been made as to how the very considerable amount of [construction-related] waste is to be transported from the site.
Whatever the long-term plans for the route of the railway, surely retaining the railway for the removal of the waste to landfill would be a very logical move and avoid the considerable environmental impact on the local area.
For many years Edinburgh’s compacted waste was removed this way to the Viridor site east of Dunbar. Could this site not be used again for this?
If the railway is ultimately lifted and replaced by a cycle track, it will be a further sad loss of what was once an extensive suburban/freight rail network within the City, and of which very little now remains.
