Dear Spurtle
I am writing to clear up the confusion regarding the Taylor's Funfair Application [Issue 194, p.2 'Calton-hillies see off 'fun of the fair'].
As part of the Edinburgh Parks' Manifesto developed last year, there is a commitment to consult with local residents' groups when applications come in to use Calton Hill. The process is complicated as this consultation is carried out prior to an application being made to the Licensing Department (hence their denial of receipt of any application). The application can be refused at this stage.
I hope this clarifies. I have asked that the consultation process be looked at again as it seems a little short, which the parks department have agreed to.
