Dear Sir/Madam,
I was surprised to see that the builders are in at the Waverley Steps
installing a very expensive escalator.
As it is only uninformed tourists (generally overweight North
Americans who could do with the exercise) and sportive types like
joggers who actually climb the steps - all sensible locals knowing to
exit the station via Waverley Bridge - surely this not inconsiderable
portion of Scotland's transport budget could have better gone towards
the Tram scheme which, we are told, will benefit us all?
