I read with great interest your article regarding buses on East London Street ('Bus route needs shake-up, say parents', Issue 242).
I emailed Lothian Buses in May and did not receive a response for two weeks. They called me to say ‘they would speak with the operations manager’. Needless to say, I saw a slight decrease but nothing to write home about. Our flat still shakes and the windows still vibrate at all hours.
To say they have not received any direct complaints is outrageous as can be shown from the email correspondence below where I am directly complaining to them! [Correspondence seen by Spurtle but not reproduced here.]
Since my email I have seen buses going at what I would assume to be over the 20mph speed limit for the street and the potholes are starting to resemble areas of the Aitken Basin on the Moon!
My complaint only concerned myself and sleep, not thinking of the children and the school with "Beware Falling Masonry’ on it.
Something needs to be done, otherwise East London Street will continue to have the drum roll of buses on the cobbles, coupled with deeper craters, more pollution, more shaking of buildings and falling masonry, not to mention the annoying changing of gears and revving of engines at all hours of day and night.
It is a residential area, not a thoroughfare for business.
