Three photographic contributors have contacted Spurtle in recent days.
The first, Michael Philp of Canonmills, took this image (right) on Warriston Road. It shows a piece of street art pasted onto the cabinet beside the raised walkway overlooking the Water of Leith and Warriston Cemetery.
Mr Philp says 'I don't normally admire graffiti. I think it's trivial and annoying. But on this occasion, I quite like the way someone's at least tried to make it blend in colourwise with the stonework' (see below). Not the sort of comment Michelangelo had to put up with.
Spurtle thinks the Warriston Road example resembles previous work by 'Elph', best known locally for his Council-sponsored decoration of the Scotland Street Tunnel wall five years ago (Breaking news, 10.12.09).
Our second contribution comes from Spurtle team member Ella Taylor-Smith.
It's not exactly photo-news, but it does delciously capture the pervading sogginess of a particular space and season – in this case, Drummond Place in late winter/early spring.
If we were a frog, at the moment, this is where we'd want to be. Preferably with a Frank Sinatra album, bottle of wine and like-minded company. And a stepladder.
Finally, another Spurtle regular – 'The Left-Handed Tea Drinker' – has emailed us this shot of what some locals have dubbed Chateau Bellevue Place.
'The windowless property is shaping up to be the most environmentally friendly home in the area, if only because of the lack of power supplied,' says the LHTD.
It is temporary accommodation for Crummock staff's stuff as they fix up cracked and otherwise wonky paving slabs around the neighbourhood. We are told another 100 need replaced, but that for each of these a further two or three adjacent ones require painstaking readjustment. So, by the time they've finished, the chateau may be attractively wreathed in ivy with roses climbing by the door.
