Two children's bikes spotted on East Scotland Street Lane yesterday evening were still there this lunchtime.
A good Samaritan has handed them in at Gayfield Police Station (Gayfield Square), where they are now helping with enquiries.
One of the bikes is a red and black Falcon Warrior, and the other is wooden with a Blue Cookie Monster (from Sesame Street) on it.
There's speculation online that the bikes may not have been lost or forgotten or switched in some daring jewellery heist getaway, so much as left on purpose as part of 'a natural "freecycle"'.
Exactly where fly-tipping ends and freecycling begins is not explained.
