ISSUE 239 – OUT SOON!

Submitted by Editor on

Imagine an enormous black and white Easter bunny lolloping out of its burrow and blinking nonchalantly in the bright sunlight of a new dawn.

In some ways, that is exactly what the Spurtle is like at the moment as Issue 239 is readied for release upon an unsuspecting April.

In most ways, however, it is a completely useless analogy which says much more about author desperation than it does about the contents of the forthcoming issue of Broughton’s free, independent stirrer.

Issue 239 will bring news of NTBCC disapproval, a Council plea for more oomph, and the possible arrival on George Street of a towering presence better suited to Brentford. There are red faces and smiling faces, fundamentally flawed poetry, break-ins, boundaries, murals and wobbly walls. Wandering masonry, long-tailed tits, the onward march of monoculture, and the questionable superiority of EH7 all jostle for position with Uighur, unruly youth, political candidates and news from the gutter.

Where can you find all this rabbity goodness? Everywhere between Howe Street and Pilrig Street , Queen Street and Canonmills, and increasingly in the Broughton-facing bits of Stockbridge. It’s in pubs, clubs, libraries, snackbars, bicycle shops, newsagents, hair salons, dentists’ waiting rooms, galleries, restaurants, and – for those too slow off the mark – in glorious colour on the Home Page of our website here. Just click on the front-page image top-right from Wednesday onwards.

If you would like to help with the Spurtle, we’d be delighted to talk to you. We need writers, story gatherers, photographers, anonymous sources, deliverers and blue-sky thinkers with no time to give us but a superabundance of bright ideas.
