A report by Planning officers into the proposed redevelopment of the former Royal Mail Sorting Office at 10 Brunswick Road has recommended that amended proposals by Long Harbour and Barratt (East Scotland) Ltd be granted planning permission.
However, Councillors on the Planning Subcommittee – aware of multiple objections – yesterday opted for a site visit next week before meeting again to discuss the matter on 12 June.
The application – initially for 238 flats (Ref. 12/04041/FUL) – concerns land slightly outwith Broughton, but may nevertheless be of interest to locals here. We attach the full report as a pdf at the foot of this page.
The report concluded:
‘[The] proposal complies with the development plan. The principle of residential use at this location is acceptable and the proposal includes commercial space. The design, scale and layout are appropriate for the site and the development would not prejudice residential amenity and transport implications are acceptable. The proposal is acceptable in all other respects subject to a suitable legal agreement and conditions.’
Some opponents of the scheme have nevertheless described it as woeful.
