A slideshow of 1950s images – part of City Libraries' Capital Collection – has gone online. It marks the release tomorrow of Sylvain Chomet's Edinburgh-set film The Illusionist.
The photographs – including some which will be easily recognisable to locally based readers – are available at www.flickr.com.
Grimy, overcast and full of smoke, the scenes instantly evoke memories of the film's dedicated animators. As reported here in June, many of them lived or played in this area whilst production company Jango's studio based in George Street. Several familiar Broughton haunts made it onto the screen.
