ISSUE 342 – OUT SOON!

Submitted by Editor on

As you read this, advance copies of the August Spurtle are already spreading across Broughton like Fringe-goers seeking somewhere to sit down without a comedian standing up in it.

Page 1 starts with old news and fond hopes and the benefit of hindsight. From a seat we move to a bench, from a bench to a bucket, and from bucket to barrier.

Fantastic flowers follow on Page 2, as do welcome new safety features, park publication plans, thoughts on congestion and worrying news for dogs.

On Page 3 we look at spaces to improve and a spot to perch regally upon, the life and times of a much missed local, and the prospect of 5 storeys many in the neighbourhood object to.

We conclude on Page 4 with a link to forgotten local history and the chance to let somebody else tame your horrible offspring for free.

Spurtle is not like other publications. We promise few magnificent overviews of Edinburgh doings. Instead, we provide bottom-up viewpoints, mostly obscured by summer growth in the gutter and restricted to Broughton.

So, if news about life between Howe Street and Pilrig Park, Queen Street and Canonmills is what floats your canoe, look no further.

You can find Issue 342 in shops, bars and cafés, libraries, services, railing dispensers and the odd phone box across the barony and beyond.

Or, alternatively, download a colourful pdf from our website HERE from midnight on Thursday.
