No excuses for bad bin behaviour
Dear Spurtle,
This is a bin in Scotland Street.
During the storm on Friday 26 November, it was empty and blown into the kerb. It is proving difficult to deal with. The normal vehicle cannot lift it and, as it is full it requires more than two men to push into position. The Council is dealing with the results of the storm across the city and problems in streets with far higher density and footfall than Scotland Street.

REFORMED CHARACTERS MAKE YOU THINK
This is interesting: the Ingleby Gallery’s virtual viewing room, part of its Instalments series, in which local artist Jessica Harrison describes the thoughts and techniques behind her transformations of found objects.

CROWNING ACHIEVEMENT FOR BROUGHTON BUSINESS
Congratulations to Paige Conner and staff, who have been voted the Edinburgh’s top hair salon in this year’s Scotland’s Business Awards.
An unknown client nominated the Broughton Street team over the summer, with others offering their own votes and reviews later.
A mystery shopper also visited the salon to verify the quality of the service, and to help whittle down 500 nominations to an elite 40.
LONDON STREET SHORT-TERM LETS REFUSED AGAIN
Edinburgh Council’s refusal of planning permission to convert 37a and 39 London Street into short-term lets has been upheld.
On 1 December, a reporter appointed by Scottish Ministers dismissed the owner’s appeal against the decision, and also endorsed the Council’s refusal of a change of use for this purpose.
