BATTLELINES DRAWN ON BAXTER’S PLACE

Submitted by Editor on

Local residents are objecting to plans to expand the operation of Planet Bar’s outdoor seating area below their windows at 6 Baxter’s Place.

Planet’s application will be considered at the Licensing Board on 29 August, where objectors hope to make their case in person.

The case concerns Planet’s application for a Variation of Premises licence which, if approved, would among other things let it extend working hours to 3 a.m. from Thursday to Sunday, with seasonal variations.

Magic moments filled with rubbish

Dear Spurtle,

As most of us know, the bin people are on strike, having been offered a below-inflation pay rise. I can see their point.

However, local residents have apparently missed the point and just dump more and more black bin bags next to communal bins, no doubt hoping the magic bin elves will come out at night and spirit them away to the magic tip in the sky.

If you dump a bin bag in the street you are fly tipping and should be fined for it. Yes, it's annoying having to keep a bin bag full of bottles and pizza boxes in your flat, but you could just hide them behind your 55-in TV for a week.

How do I know you have a 55-inch TV? Well, you left the box it came in next to the bin a few weeks ago, hoping the magic bin elves would sort it out for you.

ARCADIA AT THE CRESCENT

Submitted by Editor on

One of the more intriguing gallery spaces at this year’s Edinburgh Fringe is 13 Claremont Crescent. The home and boutique bed & breakfast of artist Michael Worobec and husband features work on three floors of an elegantly refurbished 1820s townhouse designed by William Burn.

Worobec mixes figurative, abstract and geometric approaches with elements of graphic design – intriguing combinations he often uses to unpick the destructive or enslaving influence of patriarchy.
